Yoga Journeys Off the Mat

As many of you know, I'm well and truly back from my trip to Japan and rolling with the rhythm of life again!
This month I've launched another group class in Rochedale, uploaded more yoga to the video library, and I'm gearing up for the scrumptious Nervous System Reset event on Sunday 23 November (you're invited, check out the details here!).
It was to allow the contemplative part of our yoga practice to infiltrate all areas of our life.
Yoga is not just a practice for a rubber mat.
Whether it's a physical yoga stretch that gives you time to become aware of your breath, or a moment to journal and reflect on your inner world - I found multiple methods helpful while I was away.
And I know that sounds ridiculous in such a unique and wonderful country!
But I realised it's because I had forgotten to stop and "smell the roses".
I needed to pause and re-centre my focus on really soaking up the sounds, sights, smells and tastes of my environment and the people around me.

I know we can't all race off to Japan to practice this, and taking yoga off the mat might feel tricky amongst the daily pressure and stressors that exist in our modern busy lives.
So what does yoga look like on a regular day?
During the last couple of weeks, my students and I have been exploring the heart chakra (anahata) - physically opening the front of the heart space, but also unfurling the onion of our self-compassion.
As one of my teachers once said, you don't have to 'throw open the doors to your heart' - it can be a gradual and gentle process.
Maybe it's the way you slow down and walk to the front door gently rather than rushing (✋guilty).
Or perhaps you have the courage to say 'no' to the event you've been invited to that you're just not that thrilled to attend. (This is particularly relevant during silly season).
Maybe you take a pause while drinking your morning coffee or tea to notice something you're thankful for - a lovely birdsong, a sliver of sun peeking through a window in a beautiful way.
Offer yourself that pause and peace. You deserve it.
I'd love to know what little element of self kindness or gratitude stands out to you this week. Shoot me a reply!
Warmly,
Verity 🌼
