What's the Deal with Private Yoga?

Many of us think that yoga is typically run in group classes. And that is a wonderful option for many. But some of the oldest lineages of yoga were actually practiced one-on-one.
Private yoga sessions tend to be one-on-one, or in your own small group up to three people. And there are many reasons why private yoga might work best for you...
The teacher can tailor the session specifically to help you recover, heal, and move at a suitable pace for your body.
And whilst there is a personalised plan for each session, working privately means the teacher can pivot and adjust the plan if you have different needs any given day. It means you don't have to miss your yoga practice just because you're having a flare up.
Remember, you may need to seek clearance from your physio or doctor before starting.
The teacher can tailor the session to help regulate your nervous system as needed any given day. This could look different each week.
Plus, the lighting, smells and sounds in the environment can be setup specifically for your preferences so you are supported to feel calm and at ease.
Sometimes we feel like all eyes are on us (even though everyone is generally too pre-occupied with what they're doing to look around).
Collaborating in a private setting means you don't have to worry about comparing yourself or being distracted by others. and you can ask questions at any time you feel unsure.
You'll receive the teacher's undivided attention. Plus, they can provide more cues specific for you to ensure you're moving safely, feeling the intended stretch and adapting the practice to suit your body.
Sometimes it's a helpful stepping stone to a group class. Other times, you'll find you enjoy private yoga and want to keep collaborating that way.
Private sessions are run from your home, or a location near you.
Plus, you don't have to squeeze into a pre-defined group timetable - you can reduce your barriers to participate by choosing the most sustainable timeslot for you.
We can all relate to the feeling that there's a mountain of things to do. It's hard to put ourselves first.
Investing in private yoga sessions is a way to draw a line in the sand and commit to prioritising your health.
Private sessions are a great way to develop your own program.
You become more confident with various stretches and yoga postures suited to your body. And your teacher can even set you up with some template plans to get you going.
